So much has happened since my last blog entry. I’ve started work at Open Source Applications Foundation in San Francisco, I went on a houseboat trip, the new TV season has started, Paradise Hotel is over and Mozilla is finally free of AOL.
September 19-22 I was houseboating with a bunch of friends on Lake Shasta in northern California. We had a fantastic time on a sweet boat. The boat had a water slide, hot tub, nice big kitchen, Satellite TV, XM Satellite Radio and most everything else you could think of. Lots of drinking, swimming and relaxing was done. Jason came down with some virus while we were on the trip and wasn’t feeling too well for most of the trip.
September 23 I started work at OSAF. I got up at 6:45am (when was the last time that happened?) and took the 8:04am caltrain from Lawrence Station to San Francisco 4th and King. The train arrived shortly after its scheduled time of 9:11am. It’s about a 20 minute walk from the station to the office. After arriving shortly after 9:30am, I was pleased to find that my new laptop (Dell 600m) had arrived. I did a clean install of WinXP, installed all the critical updates, got cygwin installed and had a copy of chandler by around noon. After that I started reading some Python books and by 4pm had declared myself a Python expert (which got a lot of laughs). I took the train back south and stopped in Mountain View for dinner with friends. While at dinner one of them mentioned that Jason had gone to the doctor and was thought to have strep.
September 24 I wake up with a mild sore throat, headache, and fever. Remembering that Jason was thought to have strep I went to a doctor where they confirmed that I did have strep. By 11:30am I have antibiotics and am starting to feel worse. Fortunatly I was working from home and didn’t have to be in the office to get everyone there sick.
September 25 I wake up with a severe sore throat and fever and descide there is no way I am going in to the office. Being my 3rd day and my first meeting day I’m pretty bummed. They set up a call-in number for me so I was able to hear the meeting. I couldn’t really talk as my throat was killing me.
September 26-28 I’m feeling even worse. I rediscovered how great popcicles were after buying 6 boxes of them. They start making my throat feel better, but I’m still feeling like crap. Finally, Sunday the 28th I start feeling a bit better but still have an annoying cough.
September 29-Now I’m back at work and starting to write code (yay!). I still have a bit of a cough, but nothing too bad. I really like the people I’m working with and I’m having a blast learning all sorts of new things.
